Micarta Canvas Phenolic Rod
C and CE grade Canvas Cotton - Cloth Reinforced Phenolic Rod
Micarta Canvas Phenolic is a course weave cotton fabric based phenolic laminate with greater mechanical strength than Grade XXX. Grade CE is strong, tough, and has high impact strength.
As a class, phenolic compounds are characterized by low cost, superior heat resistance, high heat deflection temperatures, good electrical properties, flame resistance, excellent moldability and dimensional stability, and good water and chemical resistance.
They are of interest to the building and transportation industries due to their fire retardancy, low smoke generation and low smoke toxicity.
Special purpose phenolics are formulated to meet specific requirements such as maximum dimensional stability at high temperature (in automotive transmission valves), cracking resistance (pump housings), stability in steam environments (steam irons, coffee makers), electrical resistance (high voltage switch gears) or good machining qualities (fine tooth gears).
Natural color Micarta canvas phenolic rod is typically light tan to brown. These grades are composed of a continuous cotton wovencloth impregnated with a phenolic resin binder.
Phenolics are the oldest, best-known general purpose thermoset resins. They are among the lowest cost and easiest to process. Phenolics are quite adequate for a fair percentage of electrical applications.
Generally speaking, they are not equivalent to epoxies in resistance to moisture, humidity, dimensional stability, shrinkage and retention of electrical properties in extreme environments.) These grades contain a medium weave canvas and are known primarily for their mechanical properties. These grades are not recommended for primary electrical insulation.
