Edge Polishing Plexiglass

ePlastics offers Edge Polishing of Plexiglass sheet for a finished look. Edge Finishing or Polishing is done in 5 basic methods:


Saw Cut Edge - our saw cut edge is Chip Free - and is the Standard Edge Finish for all cut Plexiglass.
Milled Edge- we run the edge of the Plexiglass through a high speed joiner for a frosted edge
Flame Polishing - we apply a satin finish and then pass an 800F flame over the edge to a high luster
Machine Polishing - we pass the Plexiglas over a 25,000 RPM diamond bit and then buff the edge to a high luster
Hand Polishing - we Power Sand the edges with 100, 320, 400 & 600 grit and then buff to a high luster

We charge by the foot for polishing. Thicker material takes longer to polish regardless of the method. It's easy to pick the method and thickness - then enter the total number of feet for that process. Here's some more detail on each method to help you pick the right one.

Saw Cut Edge - "complimentary" finish - if you're engaging the edge or it really does not need polishing, you're done!




Milled Edge - modern look - has a finish with a low cost that removes all saw cuts from finish. Light will "pipe" to the edge and the edge will glow.



Flame Polishing - great for the typical Plexiglass application such as table top. Light will "pipe" to the edge and exit like fiber optics. We do NOT Flame Polish over .375" thick as it is bad for the long term life of the Plexiglass. Flame Polishing is NOT recommended if you are planning on silk screening this material as the material edges will craze after screening. Do not clean flame polished Plexiglass with Windex, alcohol or any ammoniated cleaners.


Machine Polishing - a low cost and low stress polishing for thicker Plexiglass up to 2" thick. OK to silk screen Plexiglass with this process. The results are not quite as nice as Hand Sanding and Buffing (it's pretty hard to tell) and we don't recommend this on something like an artwork base, thick table tops, or thick shelving.


Hand Polishing - we polish your Plexiglass the old fashioned way.... by applying a sating finish to remove saw cuts, then sanding through 4 different grits of wet-dry sandpaper, then buffing with a cutting polish, then buffing with a fine polish. The result is stunning Museum Quality edge finishing. On thicker Plexiglass, it takes some time and is reflected in the prices. Using this process, we have made lenses up to 48" in diameter that are optically fine.

Beveled Edge - there are 2 types: full beveled and half beveled.


Roundover Edge - a smooth curved edge stopping halfway down the edge.


Bullnose Edge - best described as a roundover of the top and bottom edges.


Milled and Buffed Edge - we Buff the milled edge - this is the standard in polished edges up to 1/2" thick Plexiglass. Not recommended if silk screening on the material later.
