Clear Polyester Film
Clear Polyester Sheet and Film - Mirror Mylar - Silver Mylar
MYLAR® the Du Pont company's tradename for its polyester film and is available by request. We stock quality clear polyester with a Stock Width of 48" - we can slit to custom widths and up to 60" wide available on special order. Mylar® polyester film or sheet is a flexible, exceptionally strong and durable film with properties that make it most suitable for many industrial applications.
Mylar® polyester sheet and film is inert to water and acts as a moisture barrier as well as being unaffected by oils, greases and most aromatics.
Even under attack by these conditions, Mylar® polyester sheet or film will retain its superior properties and remain tough, clear and flexible from minus -100°F (-73.33° C) to over 300°F (148.88° C), and since Mylar® polyester contains no plasticizers, it will not become brittle or yellow with age under these or other normal conditions. Mylar is sometimes misspelled as "milar".
Polyester mirrors can be made from the metallized mylar roll stock - silver polyester is made by a deposition of aluminum onto 1 side of the film. We stock .002 and .005" thick. They make a great reflective surface - not a true mirror in any sense - just a cool shiny surface. Recommend spray adhesive for mounting to flat surface.
Note: Longer rolls of
Mylar polyester film, other thicknesses, and other widths are available on special order. We can slit the rolls to custom widths (require using a minimum of 48"x100 ft roll divided up by the slit widths). MYLAR® the Du Pont company's tradename for its polyester film and is available by request.
Mylar® history - courtesy of DuPont: Mylar® is an extraordinarily strong polyester film that grew out of the development of Dacron® in the early 1950s. During the 1960s cellophane gave way steadily to Mylar® with its superior strength, heat resistance, and excellent insulating properties. The unique qualities of Mylar® made new consumer markets in magnetic audio and video tape, capacitor dielectrics, packaging and batteries possible. By the 1970s, Mylar® had become DuPont’s best-selling film, despite mounting competition. Mylar® is now a product and registered trademark of a joint venture, DuPont Teijin Films.
